Why I Co-Founded an Agency for Foreign Artists in Korea

Why I Co-Founded an Agency for Foreign Artists in Korea

Most of what I write here is legal information — visas, contracts, what to do when the police call. Today I want to share something more personal: why I, a Korean attorney, co-founded a model and artist agency.

Over the years, a meaningful part of my practice has been advising foreign nationals in Korea, and among them were models and performers. Listening to their stories, I kept encountering the same pattern. Talented people had come a long way to work in Korea, but too many of the problems they brought to a lawyer's office were problems that should never have happened in the first place — issues around contracts they could not fully read, visa status they did not fully understand, and working arrangements that left them with little protection when things went wrong.

A lawyer can help after the problem arrives. But I kept thinking about the step before that: what these artists needed was not only someone to fix things, but an environment where things did not break so easily.

That is why, a year ago, I co-founded Le Nid with a partner. Le Nid means "the nest" in French, and the name is the mission: to be a safe nest where foreign models, performers, and creators can build their careers in Korea. The agency runs on two principles we do not compromise — artist-first, and legally compliant. Contracts our artists sign are contracts they understand. Visa and status questions are handled properly, not "handled later." Practical support covers not only bookings but the unglamorous parts of living and working in a foreign country.

One year in, Le Nid works with nineteen artists — models, performers, and creators from different countries — and I have learned more about the everyday reality of foreign artists in Korea than any case file could teach me. That experience flows back into my legal work, too. When I advise a foreign client on an entertainment contract or a visa question, I am not guessing at how this industry actually operates.

If you are a foreign model, performer, or creator thinking about working in Korea — or already here and looking for an agency that treats the legal side as seriously as the creative side — you can learn more at lenidagency.com.

And if you are dealing with a legal problem in the entertainment field, that remains my day job. The contact form on this site reaches my law office directly.
